Frequently asked questions
Where does creekX run?
On a server you control: Ubuntu 24.04 (x86-64), on your premises or any cloud VM. It also runs with no internet connection.
Which protocols does it take and deliver?
In: RTMP, SRT, RTSP and WebRTC (WHIP), and pulls from RTSP, RTMP, SRT and HLS. Out: WebRTC (WHEP), LL-HLS and HLS, and restreaming to RTMP or SRT platforms.
How low is the latency?
WebRTC: about half a second. Low-latency HLS: about 1.3 seconds. HLS with several qualities: about 4 seconds. Measured over a local network; the internet adds its own delay.
How is it licensed?
creekX Media Server per server, with a 14-day free trial; creekX Cameras per camera. See Trial and licence.
Does it need the internet?
No. Activating a licence key contacts creekx.io once; a licence file works offline.
Which cameras work?
Any camera with an RTSP address, in Media Server. ONVIF Profile S cameras, for the camera portal in creekX Cameras.
Is my video sent anywhere?
No. Streams, recordings and videos stay on your server unless you restream them. See Security and privacy.
Can I use it from my own app?
Yes. Everything in the dashboard is in the REST API, with webhooks for events. See REST API, keys and webhooks.
