Backups and moving
A backup holds your database, settings and licence, and your videos if you ask. Keep one off the server: a backup only on the machine it protects is lost with that machine.
Back up now
sudo creekx backup
With every video too (large):
sudo creekx backup --with-library
Each backup goes into its own folder under /var/backups/perpetua/. Copy it
somewhere private: it holds the key your platforms' stream keys are protected with.
Nightly backups to your own storage
-
Make a bucket
In any S3-compatible storage (Amazon S3, Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2, Wasabi), make a bucket and an access key that may write to it.
-
Run the command
sudo creekx backup-offsiteIt asks for the bucket's details and a passphrase, sends a first backup, and then sends one every night. Backups are encrypted before they leave the server.
-
Keep the passphrase safe
Write it down somewhere other than the server. Without it, nobody can open the backups, not even us.
Restore
From a folder on the server:
sudo creekx restore /var/backups/perpetua/FOLDER
From your storage, by the backup's name:
sudo creekx restore-offsite NAME
Restoring replaces everything on that server with the backup, then starts creekX again.
Move to a new server
-
Back up the old one
Run a backup and copy it to the new server (or use your nightly storage).
-
Install on the new one
Install on a server as usual.
-
Restore
Restore the backup there. The installation keeps its ID, so your licence keeps working. Point your domain at the new server last.
